Life Goes On
Indeed, life does go on. A lot has happened within the last couple of months as evidenced by the two blogs below. But there’s also quite a bit that happened in between that I have yet to blog about for some reason or another.
Donna and I left LA on the early morning of Sunday April 29 on our way up north to attend a get-together on our behalf of her nursing classmates at Ed Lising’s place in Hayward. We picked up a Taurus at a discounted rate from Gerald who manages an Enterprise Rent-a-Car branch in Fullerton. We got there around 2 pm with a couple of breaks. That night, most of the Bay Area group was in attendance except for Aaron and Susie. Of course, the hosts Ed and Tess were there, Luchie, Beth, Marilyn, Rose and Aris, Juliet and Anjie.

The next day we left Hayward for Lake Tahoe at 9:30 am. My niece Cindy and Donna’s niece Len-Len were the first ones to send me birthday greeting text messages. After checking in at Harvey’s we had our anniversary dinner at a sushi restaurant located on the Lake Tahoe ‘strip’ called Naked Fish. Of course, Donna told the waiter it’s my birthday so I got a complimentary Japanese cheese cake.
We were having lunch across the street at Harrah’s Forest Buffet Wednesday, the 2nd of May when it started snowing. The restaurant is located on the 19th floor of the hotel so we had a spectacular view of the surrounding hills and the lake. I was thinking of visiting Emerald Bay that day but I figured we won't go if the snow doesn’t let up, there won’t be a clear view and I won’t be able to take good pictures. Once we ‘re done with lunch however, the weather cleared up a bit and at the last minute I decided we should go ahead and drive on up to Emerald Bay. It’s not quite summer yet so there weren’t too many cars on the road towards Emerald Bay. As we got closer, it started snowing again. You see this is actually the first time we’ve seen falling snow and we were quite excited by it. I took a bunch of pictures although it was really cold.

When we drove down we thought of proceeding to nearby Carson City to visit Cesar and Onor. When we got there, Onor was still at work. We talked a bit more when she got home. Since our visit was pretty much unannounced we went back to Lake Tahoe to have dinner at Sato Sushi for dinner. The food wasn’t the greatest but it was Japanese so it was good enough.
We checked out from Harvey’s Thursday, May the 3rd and tackled the four hour drive back to Hayward from Lake Tahoe. That night, the QCMC group treated us with Chinese at Ming’s Restaurant in Palo Alto. We got a couple of gifts for my birthday and our Anniversary, custom made bracelet and necklace by Luchie and a beautiful Oriental tea set from Marilyn and Beth.

Friday May the 4th we had lunch in Hayward before going to Sunnyvale to visit my relatives. Atching Elong happened to be at Atching Afric’s place – two birds with one stone. She usually stays with daughter Charry up in Novato which is about an hour farther up north. It was nice to see everyone there: Alma and family (with her almost grown up daughters), Len, Cindy and of course Kong Ando and Atching Afric.

We went back to Hayward and did some Karaoke after dinner with Eddie, his brother Rolly (a really good singer, by the way) and friend Lito a retiree visiting from the Philippines.
We went back to LA Saturday May 5th and arrived just in time to hear mass at St. Linus. Daniel met us at VIP Chinese buffet restaurant for dinner.
The next day we went to pick up Kong Orling and Atching Pie from Kong Mansing’s house in Downey. They arrived from Chicago the night before. We took them to San Diego to visit their friends Noy and Yoly Lapira (former residents of Guagua), who treated us with a nice lunch at their place. Then they took us shopping to some outlet stores across an Indian Casino.

In the afternoon we dropped by Rey and Josie’s place and we went to have dinner at an Italian buffet in San Marcos.

We returned the rental to Gerald Monday and we inquired about a van for our trip to Las Vegas with Kong Orling and Atching Pie. He gave us such a great discount it blew the rates of the Enterprise branch by Kong Paing's place in Bellflower. So the next day we picked up the van from Gerald. After lunch we went to Las Vegas and had dinner at Buffalo Bill’s. We got to Kong Paing’s house in North Las Vegas really late at night. We basically spent two nights and three days over there. It was exhausting for me since I have to walk and show Kong Orling around while the rest were playing.

Daniel prepared a nice dinner spaghetti, shrimps and beans for Mother’s Day. It was surprisingly a good dinner.

I was the sponsor at Adrienne’s confirmation May 27th. Since I didn’t have any formal clothes with me, I had to borrow a suit from Nido along with a shirt, tie and a pair of dress shoes. So the only things I own that day were my socks and underwear! After wearing his shoes for an hour my feet were in agony! We had dinner at Midori’s in La Habra after the confirmation and a few of Adrienne’s friends tagged along.
Saturday June 2nd was Angelo’s graduation reception at a restaurant on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. It was a cozy little gathering with mostly his relatives in attendance with some great food. We took Adrienne and Giancarlo with us. Emy and Nido had to attend a Silver Wedding party for their friends in Temecula.

June 16 was the JASHS Picnic at the Balboa Park in Encino. Most of our LA Group was in full force with the exception of Nestor and Daisy and Roger and Bevs. Elaine, Gene, Ed and Odette were the first ones to arrive. We went there together with Emy, Nido, Adrienne and Giancarlo. Arnold and Cora came too along with two of her sons and daughter-in-law. Boy and Remy with daughter Maryjo and Boy’s sister Ate Del came a little later as well as Rey and Josie, Imelda, Dan and son Andrew. There was a lot of food brought in by everyone. Ed did most of the grilling of the chicken and steak. The JASHS kite created by Gene got a resounding 'Ooh' and 'Aah' by everyone once it took to the sky.

We went to Eph and Rach’s place in Long Beach for a Father’s Day dinner afterwards. They prepared some salad, tofu and seared Ahi. It was great!
The next day, Donna, Emy and Nido took me to the airport on my way to Chicago.
