Tue-Wed, Feb 14 thru Feb 15, 2006

I called in yesterday, told Kevin I have some personal things I needed to take care of, including spending Valentine's with my lovely wife. Donna and I had breakfast after which I made a couple of very important phone calls as part of 'settling the estate' so to speak, phone calls that would have been awkward to make at work. We went out and did some chores, bought some groceries, keeping in mind we can't go far because a prospective buyer postponed to visit the house with his wife this weekend till late in the afternoon yesterday. After lunch of sushi and sashimi, we went and watched Brokeback Mountain at the Edwards Theaters at the Cerritos Town Center - a pretty good movie (once you get past the lead characters kissing each other) but an Academy Award winner, I think not.

We got home and found out later that the guy failed to call our agent so we figured he's not going to make it. Rai-rai came by to 'assemble' his Valentine's gift to Rachel and to deliver some roses for Donna. He printed a picture of Indo and installed it in a cool frame. Then he left to pick her up and have dinner at McDonald's (go figure!). We had dinner at home and that's basically how we spent Valentine's Day of 2006.

Today was pretty uneventful except for the fact that the whole plant pretty much knows of my plans now. Sharon and Deo took me out to lunch to Kung Pao, a local Chinese eatery and lunch hangout of most Goodrich employees. Sharon organized lunch for me and for whomever is interested to join on Monday. Haven't decided yet on whether to call in tomorrow or not since Donna has the day off.

Also got a couple of calls today. This morning Kong Paing called from his 'vacation home' Kaiser Hospital. He was feeling heart palpitations last night so he checked himself in. So far all his "tests are all normal". But they're keeping him for additional observation. Arcel called tonight wanting to get together before I leave for the Philippines.

First day at work after a certain period of absence is always tough. But I figured it's a good sign when I can still remember my password!

After the morning production meeting, Kevin called me in his office to discuss my review. It was the same old stuff, I'm OK here, I'm alright there, I needed improvement here and there, etc. Once it was signed I went out and took the envelope with my resignation letter. Before I even handed it to him he said, "Are you resigning?" So I told him yes! Short and sweet just like that. But I figured I owed him some kind of explanation so I told him of our plans and how we came up with the decision to retire early, what with the kids grown and trying to enjoy the last third or maybe fourth of our lives. He was pretty supportive. Then I told my Filipino friends, Deo the IS guy and Sharon, she does basically the same thing I do in the department. She was pretty disappointed that I got out before she did. Towards the end of the day, I sent out an eMail to the rest of the members of the department before they heard it from someone else. So there you go. After February 24 I would officially be no longer an employee of Goodrich Corp. Pretty scary stuff!!

I had a pretty interesting chatting experience tonight. I was chatting with Mike in the Philippines, with my nieces, sisters Jack in the Philippines and Jen in Chicago. Cool stuff! I wish I have a web cam and a microphone so I can try them..

Sunday Feb 12, 2006

Last night I stayed up a little late chatting (for the first time) with my friend Mike from the Philippines on Yahoo messenger. Really cool stuff. He introduced me to on line XM Radio which we were listening to while chatting just like I'm listening to Hotel California right now while writing.

Nothing much happened today. Since we went to church yesterday, we were able to sleep in a little bit this morning till my sister-in-law Tess and her husband Jack came so she can fix Donna's toe nails. Robert and Mary called and we gave each other updates. Mary wanted us to go to London in March to watch and root for Mon on his Jazz competition.

We were going to have an open house today so Donna and I took off and shopped around. We went to this Spa outlet and priced out some Jacuzzi tubs. We definitely will buy one from here. After getting the guy's business card - we promised him we'll be back, we went to Luisa and Sons to get some merienda for Rommeth and Sister Gay minding the open house. We dropped off the turon, hopia and siopao and went to Costco to get some more shampoo and conditioner and multi vitamins that I'll take back to the Philippines.

We got home and Ed called saying he's on his way. He brought some KFC for dinner. Then Emy and Nido showed up with Adrianne. I showed everyone the rest of the pictures I took that I haven't posted in my blogs. Ed took his and Odette's eyeglasses and left. At around 9:30 pm Nido and Emy said goodnight and went home.

By the way yesterday was Odette's birthday and on Tuesday Feb 14 is Robert and Mary's 30th Wedding Anniversary. GREETINGS TO THE CELEBRANTS!!!

I have to get ready and psyche myself into going back to work tomorrow!!

Will let you know on what'll happen tomorrow after I put in my resignation.
