Mary & Robert, etc.
Thank God, Pampanga didn’t really suffer a lot of damage due to typhoon Reming. But CNN still reports more than 300 people dead in the mudslides in Albay from all the stuff that Mayon Volcano recently spewed out.
Now for the good news - I sent Robert a text message last night wishing him a belated birthday greeting. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a reply! I told them I was on my way to drop off Donna for ‘school’ but we waited for their call instead. I gave them our landline number and the phone rang after a few minutes. We talked for almost an hour! We told them not to surprise us of their coming to the house warming because we’ll be too busy to pick them up from the airport!! We missed Mary and Robert oh so terribly!
I wanted to invite Robert’s sister Connie to the blessing so he gave me her telephone numbers. He said since they only live in Subic which should be close enough to drive here really quick. So this morning I sent her a text message and gave her the invitation. She replied and said yes they should be able to make it. She gave me Kuya Al’s number, he’s their oldest brother. I text’d him but have yet to get a reply from him. So I told her to follow him up for me.
Yesterday evening a few minutes before we left for church, Kong Romy and wife Atching Gonding dropped by and paid us a visit. They came from Angeles to visit their daughter Elaine’s in-laws.
The other day, we got a call from Reggie and he said Dan got there ok but seemed to have picked up some bug from the flight and was a bit under the weather. I’m hoping by this time he’s feeling much better so he and Reggie and Manami can at least hangout on the weekend while he’s off of work.
Yesterday after our morning walk, we went to downtown’s wet market to get some much needed produce, chicken and seafood. Donna is getting the hang of it, she’s started to know a couple of vendors by asking for their names. You see, buyers here have to develop some sort of relationship with sellers so they’ll have regular ‘suki’. Last night we had sinigang tilapia for dinner. It’s kind of tough to have this dish without rice but she put some nice taro root with it so it wasn’t too bad. Today she’s cooking chicken nilaga, chicken asado and she’s doing the fixings for pritong lumpia to be cooked later on. We’ll be set for food for the next few days at least. All that we get from SM grocery now is Romaine lettuce for our salad, non-fat yogurt, cream cheese, etc. Otherwise, we get pretty much everything else from the market which is considerably cheaper.
