Dinner with Mon David, etc.

Daniel came and picked me up mid afternoon yesterday and then he dropped me off at Ed’s place in LA. From there, Ed and I drove to Mon’s new place in the San Fernando Valley city of Tarzana.

It’s great to see Ann and Mon again. The last time we saw each other was the farewell party the group gave me and Donna at Roger’s house in Rancho Palos Verdes fall of last year. While we were talking, Ann was slaving away in the kitchen preparing dinner. We had pork sinigang and fried tilapia. Yummy!

It was a great ‘bonding’ session for everyone, it seems Mon and family are doing well considering they got here in the US during an economic slump. Mon has gigs here and there and he’s becoming a household name at the Catalina Jazz Bar and Grille, a venue that’s been frequented by big name US performers in the field of jazz. He’s always getting invited to perform by Fil-Am groups here whenever they have events.

We left around 10 pm because Ed had to go and pick up Odette from work. When we got back to their place we waited a bit and here comes Daniel to pick me up.

I've already had lunch with her last week during her lunch break from work but today, I went to pay Sharon and her family a visit in their home in Downey. She was my co-worker at Goodrich and her youngest, Sara, is my god daughter. We haven’t had lunch so Daniel and I took their offer and had a Mexican tamales each and then we took off. Dan was late for his Streetfighter tournament at Cal Poly Pomona.

My travel agent called me an hour or so after I got back and said she’s home and I can now pick up my ticket. I check in tomorrow night at LAX for my 12:10 am BR 15 flight to Taipei which changes to BR 271 arriving at 11:40 am in Manila on Tuesday, April 29. Unfortunately she had some pretty bad news for me. Starting April 15, EVA Air changed their policy in terms of passenger check-in baggage limited to two pieces of 50 lbs each instead of 70 lbs. And I was pretty much finished with my Balikbayan boxes both of which are now close to 70 lbs each if not over a pound or two! Son of a gun! Now I’ll have to go to plan B and that will really be difficult because, I DON’T HAVE A PLAN B!!

I figured I'll forget about packing for now so when Cong Paing called me on his cell on his way home from Palm Desert, I had him pick me up so we can meet Pids Rivera in Bellflower. Ed was going to meet us there. Pids is another 'soldier' of ANASI, our advocacy to save and promote Capampangan. We mainly talked about the upcoming big event on May 17, "Aldo ning Amanung Sisuan" to be held at Holy Angel College wherein Cong Paing will be one of three poets to be crowned Poet Laureate. He practiced his poem in appreciation for his crown. And here we are at Cong Paing's studio in his house in Bellflower.CIMG0146CIMG0147

While we were there, my niece Elvie, her husband Rico and their younger daughter Shayna were on their way out so I ran outside so these pictures can be taken.CIMG0145CIMG0144

Cong Paing's in-laws, Atching Crising and Cong Jess are in town on vacation from London and are staying at their house. It's good they're around so Atching Let's sister can be with her while she's recuperating from her surgery.

By The Way, Dan won his tournament! As if there was any doubt!
