California 2010
The few weeks between the time that we came back from Sasebo and our departure for Los Angeles seemed to have passed by in a blur.
Leda, her daughter Lera and my father-in-law came last Monday, May 10, along with Donna's Guagua school mates for our send off. Of course, Sister Gay, sisters Len and Berna with their daughters were all there as well as Ayrin and her kids.

Thursday, I called a meeting with the poets of Parnasong Capampangan to hash out details of my absence.
Friday, we had a quick meeting with JASHS Class '70 officers to discuss the Souvenir Program.
And then, here comes Saturday. For a change, we'll be traveling really light with hardly anything in our hand carried luggage and our check in luggage under the required minimum weight. Yes, can you believe that? UNDER the minimum weight. It was so cool not to be lugging backbreaking hand carried luggage around. Not to mention lifting them up onto the overhead bins of the plane.
The first part of the flight from Manila to Taipei was pretty smooth. I was surprised, short as the flight was, they served us a meal.
Before we boarded our flight for LA, however, Donna and I decided we'll have some soup just in case dinner wouldn't be served right away.

We walked around the terminal afterwards and checked out their new display of multi-colored lanterns. Last time we were here, it was life sized water buffaloes in paper mache.

After the brief stopover at the TaoYuan International terminal in Taipei, we went on the second and final leg of our trip.
Donna finished all three of hers while I was able to watch 2 and 3/4 in flight movies. I didn't get to see the last part of The Book of Eli because it was time to land and they turned off our movies so they can make announcements about immigrations, homeland security, etc.
Overall, the trip was uneventful except for the congestion over at customs in LAX. It took us almost two hours before finally getting out of there. Eph didn't have to wait too long however because he left home around the time we were landing. We then proceeded to their place in Long Beach to see Rach and we finally got introduced to Cassie.

I was starving and when they asked me where I want to have dinner... well what did you expect?

We tried calling you at Emy's place Sunday 5:00 pm, but nobody was answering. From your blog, it appears that the flight went smoothly.
