Australia and Mon David

No, we didn't go to Australia. Last night we went and watched the movie Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman in the Edwards Theaters at the Cerritos Town Center. Not sure why but I seem to get stuck watching chic movies nowadays. When the movie ended, the lady behind us exclaimed, "Excellent!" So I guess it's not a bad movie after all.

Nido and Emy went with a few of his co workers to California Wok. They said the entertainment was pretty good but no one in the audience got the chance to sing.

Before we went to church this morning, I adjusted the clock on my laptop. The battery on my laptop burned out towards the end of our stay in Europe so just as soon as I unplug it, it doesn't keep the time. That's why all my posts since we arrived in California are not on real time. But I keep it plugged in right here on the coffee table because this is where I seem to get strong wireless signal so I figured I might as well adjust its date and time. Anyway...

This morning, we went to church at St. John as usual but the old priest that we like wasn't there. We missed his short homilies. We just had lunch here at home instead of going out because we still have a lot of leftovers from Thanksgiving. I was only supposed to eat prime rib once a year - on Thanksgiving Day, but since there was still a big chunk of it left, I've been pigging out on it for the last couple of days! I know, shame, shame!!

Feeling a bit guilty, I went to the park around 4 pm to walk off some of the Thanksgiving food I've been consuming. In the process, I witness the sun setting by the man made lake and that's when I took these pretty cool pictures.

After dinner Dan came and picked us up and then we went to Jazz Bakery to watch Mon on his first solo show here in LA. The show was going to start at 8 and it was 7:55 and we're still frantically looking for the place in a cold and foggy LA night! But luckily we arrived just in time. Ed was already there waiting for us. He was with Mrs. Santos, Ann's Mom.

Mon was FLAWLESS! He was backed up by a superb trio: Tateng Katindig on piano, Dominic Thiroux on upright base and Abe Lagrimas on drums. He gave them a break at one point and had his son Carlo back him up on percussion using a thump box - not sure if this is the correct term for it. When the show (first set) was over, I felt it was too short, not realizing he's already been singing for an hour and a half. Dan loved it, he said he had a lot of fun. We had a chance to talk with Mon a bit before he started his second set. We were invited to stay but Dan had to go to work tomorrow.
