Monasterio de Tarlac, the Sequel

As per my post "Movies, Karaoke, etc.", Donna and I went to the Monasterio de Tarlac in Capas last July. We enjoyed the experience so we thought we'll go back and take everyone with us this time. So last September 13, when the relic of the Holy Cross will be exposed, Ayrin hired a driver to drive her Revo. He followed me in the Innova on the way to the Monasterio de Tarlac. My father-in-law and Lera even came from Muntinglupa to go with us. Leda didn't make it. I think she had catering that day. Learning from our first trip, we came prepared this time with all kinds of snacks and cold drinks complete with lunch of rice, chicken adobo, hard boiled eggs and chicharon.

The kids enjoyed the scenic drive. As we got closer, traffic became much heavier. All kinds of PNP outposts were noticeable. We didn't get to drive all the way to the top this time. Due to the number of visitors, they had us park way out and we had to walk towards the church under the blazing sun.

The governor of Tarlac and the mayor of Capas (which explains the military presence on the road) delivered short speeches before the mass. The archbishop of Tarlac celebrated the mass along with several priests and of course the resident monks of the monastery. These pictures don't quite show it but it was scorching hot that day!

There were only a couple of picnic areas so we had to go back to our vehicles to have lunch. We decided to leave after lunch. The crowd was just too big for us to fight our way into the church to check out the Holy Cross relic.

We dropped by the Capas National Shrine on the way home so the kids can check it out.
